The USJ Doctoral Symposium (DOCS 2026) is organised by the Doctoral School of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), Macao, with the sponsorship of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ).
DOCS 2026 aims to develop doctoral students as well-rounded researchers while providing researchers, postdoctoral fellows, invited speakers, prospective candidates, and the wider community with a platform to share and discuss research progress, methodologies, and innovative proposals. Bringing together the nine specialisations of USJ’s Doctoral Programmes — Global Studies, History, Religious Studies, Education, Psychology, Business Administration, Government Studies, Science, and Information Systems — the Symposium promotes interdisciplinary collaboration between the sciences and humanities to address contemporary challenges.
The DOCS 2026 program includes sessions with international researchers, presentations of candidates’ doctoral preliminary results, poster sessions by foundational-year PhD students, a book exhibition, and networking activities that encourage interdisciplinary exchange.
This year, DOCS 2026 places special emphasis on applied digital technologies, research methodologies, generative AI, human-centered design, and immersive technologies. The opening keynote lecture, “Research in Applied Digital Technologies in Portugal: Four Case Studies,” will be delivered by Prof. Dr. José Miguel Sales Dias. The symposium will conclude with a closing keynote exploring Macau’s history and heritage, titled “The Birth of a New Diocese in Macau: From 1557 to the Early 1600s,” contributing to the celebrations of the 450th anniversary of the Diocese of Macau.
